The Anglican Diocese of Durham is broadening its consultation on plans for a new school by holding a drop-in event at Wynyard Hall on Monday 31st March 2014 2-6pm.
The new school (Wynyard Church of England Primary School) has been proposed for a site on the edge of Wynyard near Billingham, Teesside, as part of a series planned new housing development in the Wynyard area. The school will be open to all local children from any faith or none at all. Archdeacon of Sunderland the Ven Stuart Bain, Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education, said: “To support the announcement we made earlier this month, we are holding a drop-in event at Wynyard Hall to allow local residents and anyone interested in finding out more about our plans to come along and have a chat. “We want to be part of the planned new housing developments as we know that we can deliver a really good school and hopefully, people will see this as a good thing and want to get on board. “The Diocese has been involved in education in the region for more than 150 years, we educate more than 14,000 children through our schools including the 48 church of England Primary Schools in the Diocese. Their record of success is very high, with 94% of our primary schools being graded Good or Outstanding by Ofsted, substantially higher than the national average. “This is a great proposal and working in partnership with the local community is crucial. We want this to be a neighbourhood school. We need the support of the local community in order to demonstrate to the Department for Education (DfE) that there is sufficient demand for our proposed school, so we are asking people give us their opinions and support at the the drop in session at Wynyard Hall Hotel on the 31st March 2014 between 2 and 6pm. or via a dedicated website, Facebook-page or on twitter.†Applications for the new Wynyard Church of England Primary School will be welcome from all local children. The Diocese also hopes to make nursery places available on the site, which is yet to be announced. It will be a Church of England school, operated by the Diocese of Durham, with a governing body that will include representatives from the Church, parents and staff as well as others. Once the consultation is completed, the application will be sent to the Department for Education in May and, if successful, the school will open in September 2015.
